Genevieve M. Daniels has extensive experience in all aspects of
commercial and residential real estate transactions and management,
as well as real estate-related and other commercial disputes. She
also advises and represents entrepreneurs, investors and businesses
owners concerning their corporate structuring, governance, buying or
selling, and employment and labor-related issues, as well as
commercial and employment-related litigation.
Prior to forming GMD & Partners, Ltd. Ms. Daniels was an attorney in
the commercial litigation group at the nationally-prominent law firm
of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, where she primarily represented
clients in employment and real estate litigation. Ms. Daniels began
her legal career in the City of Chicago Law Department, prosecuting
real estate and building-related matters involving the City's
municipal code and other requirements. She subsequently practiced in
the City of Chicago Law Department's labor and employment divisions,
counseling and litigating on behalf of the City of Chicago in both
employment and traditional labor matters.
In her real estate practice, Ms. Daniels advises and represents a
wide range of commercial and residential clients, including
investors, entrepreneurs, developers, business owners, property
managers, condominium and home owners' associations, and individual
home owners. Ms. Daniels' transactional experience involves all
aspects of real estate acquisition, disposition, development, use
and management. Ms. Daniels' handles all manner of litigation
related to real estate, including contractual disputes arising from
real estate deals, actions to quiet title, landlord-tenant suits,
evictions, mechanic's lien claims, and other litigation regarding
the purchase, ownership and use of real property. In addition, she
has experience litigating alleged violations of governmental laws
and regulations, including municipal and building codes.
In her employment practice, Ms. Daniels advises and represents
business owners on all issues relating to personnel and human
resource management, including the hiring, firing, and discipline of
employees, the creation and review of employee handbooks, and
matters relating to wage payment, disability and leave, and
compliance with federal, state and local employment laws. Ms.
Daniels also conducts training seminars for employees and
supervisors on laws relating to harassment and discrimination, and
assists clients in conducting internal investigations of alleged
harassment, discrimination, retaliation and employee misconduct. She
also drafts employment and executive compensation contracts, as well
as agreements involving vendors, independent contractors, employment
severance, non-competition and non-solicitation.
Ms. Daniels received her Doctor of Law from Northwestern University
School of Law in 1993. While there, she served as a staff member of
the Legal Clinic, representing her clients in judicial and
administrative hearings. Ms. Daniels received her Bachelor of Arts
with honors from Loyola University of Chicago in 1990, where she was
the sole recipient of the President's Medallion for the College of
Arts and Science.
Ms. Daniels regularly presents seminars and presentations to
business association groups on developments in the law. She is a
member of the Illinois Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association,
and has served on the board of directors of several Chicago-based
arts organizations. She currently serves on the board of Remy Bumppo
Theatre Company and serves as legal counsel to the Joffrey Ballet.
She is admitted to practice in Illinois and has been admitted to the
United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts
of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana.
